Rising temperatures, natural disasters and volatile weather patterns have become a fixture of life in the twenty-first century. The real impact of a changing planet and environmental risks has gone from theory to reality – and there is no place on the planet that won’t feel its effects!
What climate change means for business and global trade is less well understood. Transitioning a business from environmentally harmful to environmentally sustainable has big implications for the business models and bottom lines of all sorts of companies, and perhaps none more so than small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), who must face this transition with fewer resources than larger, well-established multinationals.
Thus, this module aims to introduce SMEs to the basics of environmental sustainability, with a view to demonstrate how becoming more sustainable can also be good for business!
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Lay out the reasons why sustainability is important for your business;
- Define what sustainability means in a business context; and
- Map out ways for your business to become more environmentally sustainable.
